  • Be Earth Friendly While Saving Your Skin

    The Good Oil Skin Moisturiser

During the last few years the terms eco-friendly, go-green, cruelty-free (and so many others) have been trending the web and brands have jumped on the bandwagon. Here at The Good Oil this is has been common knowledge since our beginning. After reading this you you’ll understand why our products benefit you and our planet!

All variations of terms you’ve ever heard ultimately boils down to one; earth friendliness. Being earth friendly means that the products you consume contribute to maintaining our planets longevity. The ingredients are naturally sourced from our planet and therefore not harmful to our planet.

Artificial products, in other words fake products, are produced to imitate natural ingredients for the sole reason of being cheaper. Using chemically made artificials as skincare highly damages our earth and our skin as these materials being used are plastics, synthetics, parabens and aluminium’s. Not only are they damaging, they are also non-bio-degradable, meaning they cannot be decomposed and will remain on earth for a very long time. Being able to bio-degrade greatly benefits our planet as the materials can be recycled and reused time and time again!

One might ask themselves why plastics are so harmful to our planet. The simple answer is that plastic is the number one cause of pollution in our oceans, directly leading to sea animal’s death. Moreover, plastic is non-bio-degradable and will take over 1000 years to break down. Synthetics, parabens and aluminium come with a ton of harmful impacts such as contributing to global warming, polluting the air we breathe, and they also require enormous amounts of electricity and water – which are already scarce luxuries.

The Good Oil was born with the ethics of saving our skin and earth at all costs and no compromise. We work closely with our Hemp seed oil suppliers from Tasmania who source the best oil they have to offer. Our other ingredients are also living organisms that are derived from our planet with positive impacts.

Caring for ourselves and our planet can be shown in many different ways and something as simple as consuming natural brands goes a long way.

The Good Oil believes that we can improve our quality of life while maintaining a healthy planet by using what nature provides - so that you can be earth friendly, while saving your skin, one product at the time.

  • 5 Simple Steps to Achieve Naturally Strong and Healthy Hair

Posted on by The Good Oil Byron Bay

    Strong and Healthy Hair

A prerequisite for prosperous hair is obviously using natural ingredients that will nurture your hair from its roots, but you already knew that! So, bring out your pen and paper because you will want to remember these tips:

    1. Diet

The topic of diet is a reoccurring one when wishing for a physical change, but that is because it’s an imperative factor! Whatever you put into your body will display outwardly, just like when you use artificial ingredients in skincare. Your hair follicles thrive off the food you eat and largely responds as a result of it. If you are wishing to grow strong and healthy hair you should focus on eating

    • Omega 3 – Beans, berries, chia seeds, greens, hemp seeds
    • Protein – Lentils, quinoa, spinach, almonds, tahini
    • Antioxidants – Blueberries, kale, beetroot, onion
    • Vitamin C – Lemon, chestnuts, apple cider vinegar, cacao beans

    2. Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise

Dry hair leaves your cells bare! Properly moisturizing your hair cannot be stressed enough. If you leave your hair dry without any products in, your strands will become stiff, lifeless and eventually break off. Imagine not putting lotion on your body for a year and it turning into crocodile skin – i.e. cracky, dry skin.  You don’t want this! Moisture comes in different forms and you have to find your preference. One form of moisture is just plain water, but to increase your chances in hair prosperity you should use a natural shampoo and conditioner every time when washing your hair.

    3. Use a hair mask

Another form of moisture is using a hair mask after washing your hair. A mask is beneficial as it further penetrates your strands and moisturises from within. A mask is usually left for 5-20 minutes which allows the ingredients to thoroughly reach your hair cells. It will hydrate your hair and is specifically designed to restore damaged hair from first use. Check out our range of masks here.

    4. Seal in the moisture with an oil

Something that is more uncommon, but definitely crucial in strong and healthy hair, is sealing in the moisture. What that means is that when you’ve moisturised your hair, you need to lock in this moisture to ensure it will work deep into each individual hair strand. The secret to doing this is applying an oil as a finish. The oil works as a shield between your hair and everything around it, protecting the moisturiser from evaporating into air. For hair as strong as rope, use our organic hair treatment oil.

    5. Drink water

You already know that healthy hair begins from within, and since water is a large part of your bodily mass you must retain the water levels your body needs. Water hydrates your glands and aids a healthy growth process. It flushes out the toxins paving the way for the natural ingredients to work its magic. Water is most probably the easiest step, so make sure you drink at least 8 glasses a day!

  • Know Your Skin Type

    The Good Oil Skin Types

Do you ever wonder why skin products seem to work on everybody else but yourself?

It can be tricky if you don’t know your skins origin, but don’t worry, we have the answers!

Knowing your skin type is essential in providing optimal care for your skin. Everybody’s skin is different and you have to match the right product ingredients to your skin type. To make it easy, we have broken it down into the four main skin categories:

    Dry Skin

Dry skin is effected by genetics, lifestyle, diet, hormones, and climate. If your skin is dry, that means it produces less oil that normal skin would, hence your skin can feel tight throughout the day and you may experience flaking. The lack of oil makes it more sensitive to changes in weather, so if you notice sudden dryness when the weather gets cold or heats up, you probably have dry skin.

    Traits:
    - Low oil production
    - Tightness
    - Flaking

    The Good Oil Recommends:
Our Cellular Levels oil will hydrate your skin with its three key ingredients; Hemp seed oil, jojoba oil and rosehip oil.

    Oily Skin

The complete opposite of dry skin; in these cases, your skin produces too much oil than necessary, which can result in redness, pimples, blackheads and open pores. Excess oil tends to leave pores clogged. So, if you notice that you get dark spots after pimples heal, it is because oilier skin is also prone to a condition called post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

     Traits:
    - Oil excess
    - Pimples
    - Dark spots

    The Good Oil Recommends:
To keep excess oil off your face Opium Drops Face Cream is your best friend.

    Normal Skin

Your complexion is right in the middle, not too oily nor too dry and you rarely have breakouts. Normal skin is soft and its complexion is visually even. Your texture is regular, with hardly any visible pores. If you have normal skin you will have a mild shiny surface which won’t get tight or red. Your normal skin does not expose any imperfections. However, you can oftentimes experience dryness on your cheeks.

     Traits:
    - In between oily and dry
    - Even complexion
    - Soft feel

    The Good Oil Recommends:
For your normal skin, you want to boost vibrance and elasticity with The Good Oil.

    Sensitive Skin

Being a part of the sensitive skin category can be defined differently by people. The most common symptoms are that sensitive skin can easily become inflamed and irritated. Have you ever noticed red patches on your skin, areas of dryness or blemishes? If you are sensitised, you easily break out in rashes and get tingling, itchy, or stinging skin in response to products (or even water). If when exposing your skin to cold winds makes you very red in certain areas, chances are you have sensitive skin!

     Traits:
    - Easily irritated
    - Rashes
    - Reacts to skin products

    The Good Oil Recommends:
The Sensitive Skin Face Cream will gently take care of your sensitised skin.

Now that you know which skin type you are, the next step is getting the products that are created specifically for your skin type. Your skin will thank us later!
